October 17, 2017

Come celebrate with us

Bahá’ís in St. John's will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh at the Rooms on Oct. 21
Bahá’ís in St. John's will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh at the Rooms on Oct. 21
This year, Bahá’ís will mark the bicentennial of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh, Whose Teachings hold the promise to unite the human race.

  • Bahá’ís regard Bahá’u’lláh as a Manifestation of God – a great Messenger like Jesus, Moses, Krishna, Buddha and Muhammad – who perfectly reflected the qualities of God.
  • Bahá’u’lláh was born in Tehran in 1817, and millions of Bahá’ís around the world will celebrate the bicentenary of His birth on Oct. 21.
  • On the same weekend, they will celebrate the birth of The Báb, the Forerunner of the Bahá’í Faith.
  • The local event, to be held at the Rooms,  will be open to the public. All are welcome.

Bahá’ís in Newfoundland  and Labrador will soon join millions around the world in celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh.

The commemoration will mark the first of two major bicentennial celebrations over the next two years. This October, we will mark 200 years since the birth of Bahá’u’lláh, the Founder of the Bahá’í Faith. In October 2019, we will celebrate the bicentenary birthday of The Báb, the Forerunner of the Bahá’í Faith.

Each year, the birthdays of both Messengers fall on consecutive days, and we refer to these occasions as the Twin Holy Birthdays. This year, the Bahá’í community of St. John’s will host a public celebration of the Twin Holy Birthdays at 7 p.m. October 21 at The Rooms.

The Rooms is a centre for telling the story of Newfoundland and Labrador. So, we are delighted to be able to share the story of Bahá’u’lláh in this beautiful setting.

The commemoration will focus on both the story of His life and its significance.

Bahá’u’lláh: A life of crisis and victory

The celebration at the Rooms will trace the epic story of Bahá’u’lláh’s life – from His birth into a noble family in Persia, through His imprisonment and torture in Tehran, through His exiles in Iraq and Turkey, and finally to his banishment to the Holy Land.

Though He suffered greatly during His life, He ultimately triumphed in bringing teachings that have already transformed the hearts of millions and that Bahá’ís believe will transform the entire planet.

One of the names used to describe Bahá’u’lláh is the Divine Educator. The October 21 program will highlight how quickly His message and teachings spread and the meaning they have held over the past 200 years.

Bahá’u’lláh came with the promise of a united world. To celebrate His birth, we look at how that promise is reflected today.
